Is Your Career Stalled?
The Harvard Business Review is a must-read for those of us in the industry. Great topics, smart writing – it will certainly help you raise your game. This month there was a great article written by Elena Lytkina Botelho and Katie Semmer Creagh called What to Do If Your Career Is Stalled and You Don’t Know Why (link). The authors surface the topic of Executive Presence. It is a blind spot for so many people – and likely the single biggest inhibitor to career growth. While it’s a broad topic, it is listed as the number one “behind the door” discussion (and elimination) points about potential candidates. It could be how you carry yourself, dress, even how you smell. The challenge is – very few people will share this feedback about you.
Review the article to get a full view on their research, and ask yourself – what are my blind spots? Who can I ask for feedback from in a safe environment? Who will give me this challenging feedback? Am I even ready to receive it? It could be the single biggest obstacle to your professional progress, it’s time to tackle it!
